The Alicia Koplowitz Foundation published the results of its fourth annual Call for Research Projects in the area of infant and adolescent psychiatry at the closing of the 43rd annual Congress of the Spanish Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AEPNYA), held on May 24th in Valencia, and for Research Projects in the area of Neurosciences during the celebration of the Foundation’s III Scientific Symposium in Madrid on the 25th of September.
Eight research grants of €75.000 each were awarded to the following research teams:
– Team led by Dr. Enrique Baca García, from the Psychiatry Service of the Clínica de la Concepción, Fundación Jiménez Díaz, Madrid, and including Drs. Luis Jiménez Treviño, Juan José Carballo Belloso and Jerónimo Saiz Ruiz. Title of the project: “Mortalidad y suicidio en la evolución de la patología de inicio en la infancia-adolescencia. Estudio de la evolución de una muestra de 25.000 pacientes durante los años 1992-2009”.
– Team led by Dr. Celso Arango López, from the Adolescent Unit, Department of Psychiatry, Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, Madrid, with the participation of Dr. Manuel Desco Menéndez, Dr. Josefina Castro i Fornieles and Dr. Inmaculada Baeza Pertegaz. Project title: “Marcadores de pronóstico y neurodegeneración en primeros episodios psicóticos en niños y adolescentes: seguimiento longitudinal a 5 años”.
– Team led by Dr. Oscar Vilarroya Oliver, Department of Psychiatry and Legal Medicine. IAPS. Hospital del Mar de Barcelona, of which Drs. Luis Miguel Martín López and Lourdes Duñó i Ambrós are members. Title of the project: “Circuitos cerebrales de la ansiedad y la motivación, laxitud articular y mala respuesta al metilfenidato en el TDAH infantil”.
– Team led by Dr. Jaime Campistol Plana, Neurology Service. Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Barcelona, with Dr. José Angel Alda Díez, Dr. Rafael Artuch Iriberri and Dr. Antonia Ribes Riudor. Title of the project: “Estudio de enfermedades metabólicas en pacientes dentro del espectro autista (TEA)”.
– Team led by Dr. Manuel Álvarez-Dolado, Department of Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine, Andalusian Center of Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CABIMER), Seville, of which Drs. Salvador Martínez Pérez and María Elisa Calcagnotto are members. Title of the project: “Terapia celular para la Ataxia de Friedreich mediante Células Madre Adultas”.
– Team led by Dr. Silvia Sánchez Ramón, Servicio de Inmunología, Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón de Madrid, including Drs. Clara de Andrés de Frutos, Rosa Teijeiro Martorell and Virginia de las Heras Revilla. Title of the project: “Fase preclínica de desarrollo de una vacuna con células dendríticas y linfocitos T reguladores para la Esclerosis Múltiple. Estudio de la gestación como modelo de inmunotolerancia”.
– Team led by Dr. Mª Concepción Lillo Delgado, from the Instituto de Neurociencias de Castilla y León (INCyL), Salamanca, with the participation of Drs. Juan M. Lara Pradas, Almudena Velasco Arranz and Marta Parrilla Monge. Project title: “Participación de las proteínas CRB y proteínas asociadas en el desarrollo temprano de la Amaurosis congénita de Leber: Ensayo de restauración funcional”.
– Team led by Dr. Yolanda Campos González, Research Unit, Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid, including Drs. Jesús Santos Mora Pardina, Jesús Esteban Pérez and Rebeca Martín Jiménez. Project title: “Estudio de las alteraciones mitocondriales en fibroblastos de pacientes con ELA. Papel de los haplogrupos del ADN mitocondrial en el desarrollo de la enfermedad”.
