FIRST RESEARCH AWARD FOR RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS IN PSYCHIATRY FROM THE NEW YOUR COUNTY PSYCHIATRIC SOCIETY

APPOINTMENT OF ALICIA KOPLOWITZ AS HONORARY ACADEMICIAN OF THE SPANISH MEDICAL-SURGICAL ACADEMY

Madrid, 29th March 2022. - Alicia Koplowitz, Chairwoman of the Foundation that bears her name, has been appointed Honorary Academician of the Spanish Medical-Surgical Academy during the Inaugural Ceremony of the Academic Year 2022 in the Sala de Grados of the Faculty of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid.

In her speech, entitled 'Diseases of the soul', the Chairwoman of the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation called for greater social involvement in the care and prevention of mental disorders during childhood and adolescence.

The Chairwoman also announced that the Foundation will launch a new project, which will include the creation of an online training platform in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, aimed at teachers, school counsellors, paediatricians and family doctors; as well as the creation of a Mental Health liaison and counselling team for the care of children and adolescents  in schools.

ALICIA KOPLOWITZ, HONORARY MEMBER OF THE AEPNYA

On 10 March 2022, the Assembly of Members of the Spanish Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AEPNYA) decided by a large majority to appoint Alicia Koplowitz, Chairwoman of the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation, as Honorary Member of the aforementioned scientific association.

This appointment will be officially announced at the 65th AEPNYA National Congress to be held in Madrid from 15 to 17 June 2022.

UNIR AND CUNIMAD AWARDS FOR "EXCELLENCE IN HEALTH AND CARE 2022"

On Tuesday, 8 February 2022, in Madrid, the International University of La Rioja (UNIR) and the Centro de Estudios Superiores CUNIMAD presented Alicia Koplowitz, Chairwoman of the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation, with their recognition for Excellence in Health and Care 2022 for the quality and humanisation of her work during the pandemic, as well as for her concern for mental health.

Emerging Investigator Award from the Spanish Psychiatry Society

Dr. Margarita García Amador received the Emerging Researcher Award from the Spanish Society of Psychiatry for the article "Suicide risk in rapid cycling bipolar patients". Dr. García Amador published it during her stay at Columbia Presbyterian University in New York, through the two-year Advanced Training Grant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology, which the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation awarded her in 2007-2009.

“The Rees Rawlings PG Cert ULT” Award.

Dr. Maria de Gracia Domínguez-Barrera received the “The Rees Rawlings PG Cert ULT” from Imperial College London, awarding the best portfolio after finishing the Postgraduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching in Imperial College. Fundación Alicia Koplowitz gave her a 2-year advanced training grant for child and adolescent psychiatry and psychology in the 2010 edition at Imperial College London.

2013 EPA Research Prize Winners

Dr. Hilario Blasco-Fontecilla was one of the “2013 EPA Research Prize Winners” for two articles published thanks to the grants for short specialisation and research stays for psychiatry or psychology given to him by Fundación Alicia Koplowitz in 2011 for a six-month stay at the “Centre Hospitalier Regional Universitarie, Hopital Lapeyronie”, in Montpellier, France.

The Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (ACAMH) Annual Poster Prize

Dr. Leticia Gutiérrez Galve won “The Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (ACAMH) Annual Poster Prize”. Dr. Gutiérrez Galve currently has an advanced training grant for child and adolescent psychiatry and psychology from Fundación Alicia Koplowitz (2012-2014) at Imperial College London.

Young Investigator Award for Excellence in Research

Dr. Marta Rapado-Castro received the Young Investigator Award for Excellence in Research for the presentation of her paper "Effects of N-Acetyl Cysteine on Tobacco consumption in Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia" at the Australasian Schizophrenia Conference. Dr. Rapado-Castro was awarded a grant from the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation. Rapado-Castro a Grant for a Research Project on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the 2012 call for applications, as well as two consecutive Fellowships for a Short Specialization and Research Stay in Psychiatry or Psychology, both for a period of six months at The University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia; the first in 2012, at the "Orygen Youth Health Research Centre" and the second in 2013, at the "Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre".

European Psychiatry Association Research Prize 2014

Maria de Gracia Dominguez M.D. was awarded the 2014 European Psychiatry Association Research Prize for the publication of the article “Duration of Untreated Psychosis in Adolescents: Ethnic differences and clinical profiles in Schizophrenia Research”. The Award Ceremony took place during the official Opening Ceremony of the 22nd European Congress of Psychiatry in Munich, Germany, on 1-4 March, 2014. Dr. Dominguez had and advanced training grant for child and adolescent psychiatry from Fundación Alicia Koplowitz (2010-2012) at Imperial College, St. Mary’s Hospital, London.

9th Edition of the Award for Young Investigators in Clinical Psychology

9th Edition of the Award for Young Investigators in Clinical Psychology to Sonia Álvarez Fernández At the 14th Edition of the Conferences of the National Association of Clinical Psychologists and Residents - ANPIR, held on 5-7 June 2014 in Seville, the 9th Edition of the Award for Young Investigators in Clinical Psychology for an oral presentation was given to Sonia Álvarez-Fernández, thanks to her work at the NYU Child Study Center during the short-term visiting fellowship that the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation granted in 2013.

EPA Prize 2015: Laura Pina Camacho

Laura Pina Camacho, M.D. is the Award Winner for EPA Research Prizes 2015 in the following category: “Clinical psychopathology and refinement of psychiatric diagnostic categories”. The Award Ceremony took place during the 23rd European Congress of Psychiatry in Vienna – Austria, on 28-31 March 2015. Dr. Dominguez had and advanced training grant for child and adolescent psychiatry from Fundación Alicia Koplowitz (2013-2015) at Institute of Psychiatry at the Maudsley, King’s College, University of London.

Extraordinary Doctorate Prize

On 26 May 2016, the Committee of Official Postdoctorate and Doctorate Studies of Alcalá University, Madrid, awarded the extraordinary doctorate prize to Dr María Dolores Picouto González for the academic year of 2013-2014. Dr María Dolores Picouto González was a fellow of advanced training in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychology of the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation (2008-2010) at Imperial College, London.

The American Academy for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Annual Poster Prize

Dr. María Andreu Pascual Galve won the Prize “AACAP Beatrix A. Hamburg, MD, Award for the best new research poster by a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Resident”. Dr. Andreu Pascual currently has an advanced training grant for child and adolescent psychiatry and psychology from Fundacion Alicia Koplowitz (2017-2019) at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic (WPIC), Pittsburgh, United States.

VIII PSYCHOFOUNDATION recURRA-GINSO AWARD “A favor de la Infancia”

During the Excellence in Psychology conference, held on December 14, 2018 in Madrid at the CES Cardenal Cisneros, Mrs. Alicia Koplowitz received the recURRA-GINSO 2018 "In favor of Children" award, granted to the Foundation that bears her name. This award, presented by the president of the Ginso Association, Alfredo Santos, recognizes the outstanding work that the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation carries out in favor of comprehensive and individualized care for children. The award distinguishes the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation for its support to studies and research through specialization and research grants in Neuropediatrics, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry and Neurosciences of children and adolescents. Likewise, it is also awarded for its leadership in projects to raise awareness and improve the quality of life of children. Finally, the celebration of scientific conferences focused on child and adolescent mental health is valued.

5th Edition of the Teaching Awards

Alicia Koplowitz Foundation awarded at 5th Edition of Teaching Awards (Premios Magisterio). On 7 November 2013 the 5th Edition of the Teaching Awards was held at Caixaforum in Madrid. The Alicia Koplowitz Foundation was one of the participants awarded. With these awards, the newspaper recognises the work of all those who, through their work, contribute to the improvement and development of education in Spain.

Silver Medal by the Valencia Council of Culture (CVC)

Fundación Alicia Koplowitz was awarded the Silver Medal by the Valencia Council of Culture (CVC), an advisory institution for the Valencia Regional Government chaired by professor Santiago Grisolía, for its scientific, social and cultural patronage since inception in 1994.

Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s Gold Medal

The Alicia Koplowitz Foundation has been awarded the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s Gold Medal for its social commitment and solidarity with child and adolescent psychiatry since it began in 1994. Alicia Koplowitz, Chairwoman of the foundation, accepted the award from Queen Sofía of Spain at an event held in Malaga to mark the anniversary of the birth of the Red Cross founder, Henry Dunant, 187 years ago.

Madrid Neurology Association Award to Alicia Koplowitz Foundation

Madrid, 11 December 2014. The Alicia Koplowitz Foundation has been awarded the "Social Prize 2014" by the Madrid Neurology Association (AMN). With this award the association recognises the Foundation's endeavours to study and treat neurological disorders in the form of the Centro de Esclerosis Múltiple de la Comunidad de Madrid Alicia Koplowitz (Alicia Koplowitz Multiple Sclerosis Centre of the Region of Madrid). The AMN also considers the activities in training and research of psychiatric disorders in childhood and adolescence sponsored by the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation through its programme of fellowships and bursaries, as well as initiatives undertaken in the area of social action. The Alicia Koplowitz Multiple Sclerosis Centre of the Region of Madrid is the first centre in Spain specialising in the treatment of this disorder and has become an international benchmark. Designed, built and donated by the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation to meet the needs of patients, it is currently managed by the Department for Family and Social Affairs of the Region of Madrid.

ALICIA KOPLOWITZ FOUNDATION WINS PUBLIC HEALTHCARE FIGURE AWARD

Madrid, 4 June 2014.- The 13th Edition of the Fundamed & wecare-u Awards recognised for yet another year the effort that the health industry is making in the current situation of crisis at a ceremony attended by numerous representatives of the ministry of health and autonomous communities, as well as the various political parties, medical professionals, pharmacists, nurses, scientific associations, patient associations and the drug industry. The Alicia Koplowitz Foundation won the Public Healthcare Figure Award.

Awards ceremony 14th Edition of CIUDADANOS Awards. - Alicia Koplowitz Foundation wins award in Health and Social Welfare Category.- On 4 July 2014, award winners from earlier editions, representatives from Spanish society and guests attended the awards ceremony at Palacio de Linares in Madrid of the 14th Edition of the Ciudadanos Awards 2014. In the category of Health and Social Welfare, María Sáinz, Chairperson of Fundadeps, was responsible for presenting the award to the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation in celebration of its 20th anniversary and in recognition of its commitment to and support of training and research in child and adolescent psychiatric disorders.

1st Prize from Fundación Privada Madrid contra la Esclerosis Múltiple

Ms. Alicia Koplowitz awarded 1st Prize from Fundación Privada Madrid contra la Esclerosis Múltiple.- Madrid, 25 September 2014.- Alicia Koplowitz receives the 1st Prize from Fundación Esclerosis Múltiple in acknowledgement of her work and active involvement in improving the quality of life of people with multiple sclerosis by opening the Alicia Koplowitz Multiple Sclerosis Centre in Madrid. The event was attended by companies from various fields, with the presence of Jesús Fermosel, the Minister for Social Affairs of the Region of Madrid, amongst others.

New Medical Economics 2015 “Fomento I+D+i biomédica” Award

Alicia Koplowitz Foundation awarded New Medical Economics 2015 prize in "Biomedical Research, Development and Innovation" category Madrid, 30 October 2015.- The journal specialising in healthcare management and patient care New Medical Economics awarded the "Biomedical Research, Development and Innovation" prize to the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation at the New Medical Economics awards ceremony, which brought together over 200 representatives of the healthcare administration, professional organisations, scientific associations and senior executives from the drug industry. New Medical Economics awards these annual prizes in recognition of the work of healthcare professionals and institutions, administrations and drug and healthcare technology companies that have made a significant contribution to the development of biomedicine and health sciences in Spain throughout 2015.

ABC HEALTH AWARDS

The Alicia Koplowitz Foundation was awarded the “Foundation of the Year Prize” for its support in the investigation of Child and Adolescent psychiatry illness. On November 30th, 2015, ABC Health, a supplemental reference in the health sector, gave its annual awards to professionals, institutions, research projects, medicines and companies that have stood out in this area.

IV AWARD FOR MENTAL HEALTH

On Friday, 28 April, the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation accepted in Santander the IV Award for Mental Health, which Centro Hospitalario Padre Menni - Hermanas Hospitalarias presented at a ceremony held in the conference room of the hospital. With this distinction, the hospital recognises the significant work undertaken by the Foundation in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, psychology and neurosciences, as well as in the field of neuropaediatrics.
