Alejandro Marcos, born in Salamanca and raised in Toledo, has an extensive personal and academic career both in Spain and abroad.
Graduated in Medicine from the University of Valladolid, he completed his training in Psychiatry at the Hospital Nª Sª de Candelaria (S/C Tenerife) following the Itinerary A in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He has undertaken external rotations in several child and youth mental health care services at Orygen Youth Health (Melbourne) and in the Crisis Service and the Community Intensive Care Service (ICCS) teams of East London Foundation Trust (NHS London), besides attending diverse training courses in psychopharmacology, TMS and ECT.
Alejandro was awarded mobility grants during his time at university, moving to the University of Antwerp as part of the ERASMUS + programme, and to the University of La Laguna (SICUE). In addition, he completed stays at the University of San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador) and Akdeniz University (Antalya, Turkey), all sponsored by the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA). Previously, he obtained a Licentiate Degree in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Physiopathology and Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology from the University of Salamanca, having obtained an International Baccalaureate (IBO) and being selected as an Expeditionary of the Quetzal Route in 2006, a programme declared of ‘Universal Interest’ by UNESCO.
He took part in some multi-centric collaborative studies (EUROSURG), which have resulted in various indexed publications. During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, he teamed up with general practitioners to assist the Hospital La Paz (Madrid) in clinical tasks in medicalised hotels, as well as for other needs and support such as data collection, which yielded further publications.
Nowadays, he receives training in a programme of substance abuse and other addictions, as well as in Family Therapy, and SFBT tools to work with children and adolescents; and has started a doctorate programme in Health Sciences at the University of La Laguna.
