Dr. María Dolores Picouto is a Consultant Psychiatrist working in the Adolescent In-patient Unit of the Institute of Psychiatry and Mental Health of the Gregorio Marañon Hospital. She graduated in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2001. She completed her residency in Psychiatry at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital, between 2002 and 2006. From 2008 to 2010 she trained in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at St. Mary´s Hospital in London with a grant from the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation. In this period she also worked as a researcher at the Academic Unit of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Imperial College London developing a project on psychological sequelae and biological stress markers in children who had required admission to intensive care. With this project she wrote her doctoral thesis, which received the University of Alcala 2013 Doctorate Award.
Dr. Picouto combines her clinical activity with the research into early onset first episode psychosis. She is co-principal investigator in the project “Combination of treatment with N-acetylcysteine and cognitive training to promote changes in behavioral and neural activation patterns that underlie cognitive deficit in adolescent psychosis”, awarded with one of the research grants given by the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation in the 2018 call.
