Dr Pérez holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona and specialised in psychiatry at the Clínic Hospital, Barcelona. After finishing her specialization, she received an advanced training fellowship by the Alicia Koplowitz foundation (2015-2017) to be part of the research team at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) Research Centre, Department of Clinical Neuroscience / Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.
During this time, and under the supervision of Prof. Mataix-Cols, she has been involved in several research projects (systematic reviews related to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and its aetiology, the validation of the Dysmorphic Concern Questionnaire as a screening measure of Body Dysmorphic Disorder, a multigenerational family clustering study of autoimmune diseases in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and/or Tourette’s Disorder, a pharmacoepidemiology study of Tourette’s and chronic tic disorders). Finally, the most important project of all is that she is putting the final touches to the bases of her doctorate degree, which will consist of various studies on the functional impact of OCD, tics and anxiety disorders in schools (infant-school children) and in social/work areas subsequently in adulthood.
With respect to the clinical side, she has visited outpatients together with a senior psychiatrist specialising in OCD and related disorders. She has also engaged in different workshops carried out at the clinic on OCD, psychotherapy for chronic tic disorder tics and the diagnosis and treatment of body dysmorphic disorder.
Finally, with respect to ongoing education, she has undertaken courses on statistics, how to perform systematic reviews and meta-analysis, neuropshcyopharmcology and epidemiology.
